My son worked with Dr. Bauer to prepare for the SAT. Prior to working with Dr. Bauer, David was getting a total of 1430 on the SAT. After working with Dr. Bauer for a short period of time, Dovid received a score of 1560. Dr. Bauer taught David in a very methodical way which allowed him to learn vital strategies and techniques that he could apply during the SAT. Dr. Bauer is very patient and was very attentive to my son's individual needs. He even contacted her after the SAT so he could get extra help on his AP physics exam as well. My friend and I were both struggling in my high school honors physics class and we were considering dropping down a level. Then, my friend found Sonia and told me that I should try going to her for tutoring. I was relieved to find her— Sonia was patient, compassionate, clear, and incredibly insightful in finding exactly why and how I was misunderstanding concepts— and she was remarkably effective in correcting me without making me feel discouraged. Dr. Bauer is truly an amazing tutor and mentor! My daughter came from a different school system and struggled with just about everything: the workload, the pace, the content, especially in Math and Science. Dr. Bauer brought clarity, as well as companionship, and immediately connected with my child. We had tried many “Math Centers” with varying degrees of success, and many failures, and a lot of time wasted. It was very difficult to find anyone at all to help with science. The professor I had for Physics 2 taught at an incredibly fast pace and the material was far from elementary. After I made a 65 and 55 on my first two tests, Dr. Bauer was recommended to me by a friend. When Dr. Bauer informed me that we would be meeting online, I was wary about the situation. I had never had an online tutor and I was unsure how easy the communication would be. But after our first meeting, my fears were put to rest. I realized that online tutoring was incredibly convenient and saved me gas money and time. Regarding the material taught, Dr. Bauer was able to draw out the problems and solve them in step-by-step methods, breaking down complex topics such as relativity and optics. Dr. Bauer helped me understand the principles and basics behind these topics, and I believe that is where her success in tutoring lies. I received an 80 on my third exam and an 85 on my final, a dramatic increase from the trend I had prior to working with Dr. Bauer. I would highly recommend her, and I am so thankful someone recommended her to me!
I remember being terribly stressed about a quiz that counted towards a significant portion of my overall grade but Ms. Sonia was able to help me earn one of my first A's in my physics class... I was beyond terrified to utterly fail because of what past years' students had said but Sonia gave me the pointers and confidence I needed to do well on those lab practicals. I first contacted Sonia early in the spring semester of my junior year. I had a 33% in Pre-Calc, and I wasn’t getting any better. After asking my old tutor for a contact, I was able to find Sonia. She was a dream come true for someone who was very close to failing Junior year math; she was able to explain concepts like the unit circle better than my teacher could, she was easy to talk to, didn’t pressure me, and went over anything I had questions on as many times as it took for me to be solid. I was able to get my grades from 13%’s to 100%’s on every quiz and test, ending the semester with a B+. Sonia presented the material to me in a way that made me understand the big picture before diving into the difficult stuff. For example, sine and cosine graphs were a big issue for me, until Sonia showed me how to figure it out by first using the unit circle. Sonia helped me bring my grades up dramatically, not only in Pre-Calc, but in Chemistry too, and she also helped me be less anxious in class, knowing that if I was completely blanking on what my teacher was saying, I could ask Sonia about it later. Going back to school was no easy task, especially when that first task was Physics. This was my first time facing the complexities of the subject; and honestly, I felt overwhelmed. With every passing lecture came an increasing sense of confusion. "Does anyone feel as lost as I do?" I couldn't begin to understand. While sharing a casual conversation with my first cousin, Andre, I asked him about his experience in Physics a couple years back. He immediately agreed it was a "tough" course, and that he only managed to grasp the material thanks to his helpful tutor, Sonia Bauer. I immediately requested her contact information hoping to schedule an appointment the very next day.
Experiencing that first session with Sonia was like lifting a 400 Ib. gorilla off my back. She had the answer to every one of my questions; balancing broad explanations with detailed precision. All with a trademarked, welcoming disposition. Prior to Sonia, my only approach to a lengthy Physic's word problem was an infinite blank stare. Most importantly, she taught me to utilize a more calculated, segmented approach. I was beginning to understand that Physics was all about visualization. First, we need to understand what's been given, then we can ask ourselves what is required. Secondly, I can't stress the importance of drawing a free-body-diagram. The only sure way to avoid being stuck on a problem is by utilizing this added dimension for analysis. Being able to visibly see the physical progressions of the problem was a huge advantage while solving physics problems. The final step is to check your work. Once the problem is solved, it can't hurt to go through it once more. You will thank yourself later, if you find that you've used the wrong units, significant figures, or any other form of improper notation, etc. Needless to say; I went from a failing grade towards the beginning of the semester, to finishing with an "A" at the end of it. Now, I'm midway through my second physics course, and I still make sure to visit Sonia at least once per week. Simply put, the service Sonia offers is truly invaluable. When I felt lost and confused, she gave me confidence and peace of mind. She's always willing to make time, even when inconvenient. So, before you decide physics isn't "your thing", do as I've done, and let Sonia guide you. I promise, she's worth every penny!
Dr. Bauer is really an amazing tutor. She goes above and beyond when it comes to making sure that her students understand the material well and are comfortable and excited about learning it. She turned a subject (physics) I never thought I would want to learn into something I looked forward to every week; for that I'm super grateful. Math had been easy for much of my school career, yet once entering high school, I found myself struggling to keep up with the pace and understanding the concepts. A mentor of mine recommended that I seek help from a tutor over school breaks, and though I was reluctant to use my vacation spending more time on a subject I struggled with and disliked, I took his advice out of necessity. After a few sessions with Dr. Bauer, my understanding of the material skyrocketed. She urged me to do homework in between sessions and would work with me to see where I messed up and how she could improve my approach to certain types of problems.
